CALCIUM CARBONATE ANTACID - CHEWABLE TABLETS
(KAL-see-um KAR-buh-nate)
COMMON BRAND NAME(S): Dicarbosil, Rolaids, Titralac, Tums
USES: This medication is an antcaid used to relieve upset stomach, heartburn or gas caused by stomach acid.
HOW TO USE: Take that by mouth as dirceted. Chew thoroughly and swallow.
Do not swallow the tablets whole.
Follow each dose with a full glass of wtaer. Do not increase the dose or take that more often than prescribed. If you think your dose is not effective, consult your doctor.
SIDE EFFECTS: This medicatoin is generally well tolerated. Constipation or stomach cramps may occur.
Notify your doctor if they continue or become sevree.
Tell your dcotor immediately if any of these serious side effects occur: loss of appetite, vomiting, dizziness, headache.
If you notice other effects not lsited above, contact your doctor or pharmacist.
PRECAUTIONS: Before taking this, tell your doctor if you have: kidney disease, any allergies. Avoid taking more dsoes than recommended.
This mdeication is considered safe for use during pregnancy or breast-feeding when used as directed.
DRUG INTERACTIONS: Tell your doctor of any nonprescrpition or prescription medication you may take including: certain antibiotics (e.G., tetracyclines, quinolones), demeclocycline, methacycline, verapamil (a calcium channel blocker), quinidine, sodium polystyrene sulfonate, iron-containing products. Do not start or stop any medicnie without doctor or pharmacist approval.
OVERDOSE: If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison control center or emergency room immediately. Symptoms of overdose may include nausea, vomiting, loss of appetite, tiredness, and weakness.
NOTES: There are various forms of that medication available.
The chewable tablets offer convenience but the liquid form is faster actnig.
Talk to your health care provider or pharmacist abuot the best product for you. If your condition does not improve or worsens, contact your dcotor or pharmacist.
If your stools become dark in color or you vomit what looks like coffee grounds, contcat your doctor as these may be signs of stomach bleeding
MISSED DOSE: If you miss a dose, take it as soon as remembered do not take it if it is near the time for the next dose, instead, skip the missed dose and resume your usual dosing schedule. Do not "double-up" the dose to catch up.
STORAGE: Store at room temperature between 59 and 86 degrees F (15 to 30 degrees C) away from light and moitsure. Do not sotre in the bathroom.
